Resources on Troop Level Changes in Iraq
This week, President Bush announced the Iraq troop levels that will be in place at least until the end of his presidency. As troops rotate in, out, and around Iraq, ISW's Order of Battle (ORBAT) is an excellent resource for tracking the location and area of responsibility of all Multi-National Force-Iraq units, down to the battalion level.
The ORBAT lists the disposition of US forces from July 2006 to the present. Several new units have assumed responsibilities in Iraq and the ORBAT has been updated for September. ISW derives all information in the ORBAT from open sources that are readily available and cited in the document. In addition, ISW has a map that shows the Disposition of Coalition Brigades in Iraq from earlier this year. In combination with the ORBAT, the map provides a visual aid for understanding where our forces are operating.
